MANHATTAN — Kenmare Street will soon get a touch of the Renaissance, when a 30-foot-tall replica of Michelangelo's "David" visits NoLita next week.

"David (inspired by Michelangelo)" by Turkish conceptual artist and Bard College graduate Serkan Ozkaya, will make a fleeting appearance outside the Storefront for Art and Architecture at 97 Kenmare St., between Mulberry Street and Cleveland Place, from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday.

The statue is coming as part of an international journey from Istanbul, where it was created, to Louisville, Ky., where it will be displayed at the 21c Museum in Louisville, according to a statement by the Storefront for Art and Architecture. It will remain in a reclining position for the duration of its New York City visit, on the back of a flatbed truck.

Ozkaya used a 3D rendering program and a staff of six people to make the sculpture over six months.

"I wanted to use the potential of the 3D model to recreate the most precious man-made object, one which I had never seen for myself," he said. "I took the liberty to imagine it twice as tall and in gold."

MoMA PS 1 founder Alanna Heiss, Princeton University architecture professor Spyros Papapetros and others will participate in a panel discussion on "the effects, desires and implications in the act of doubling, replicating or copying," starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the statement said.
