BRONX — A fire truck rushing to a two-alarm blaze in Williamsbridge on Monday swiped a minivan pulling out of a parking spot, witnesses said.
No one was hurt in the minivan's crash with the truck.
The fire, in a three-story house 953 E. 217th St., near Bronxwood Avenue, left four people with minor injuries, FDNY officials said. Six firefighters were also treated for injuries, officials said.
Fire officials at the scene said the blaze started on the second floor of the house and spread to the top floor. The cause was under investigation, and officials said they were looking closely at mattresses on the second floor, which were burned more than other objects.
Samiyrah Hudson, who lives on the top floor, said she didn't know there was a fire until her grandmother "banged" on her door.
When she opened it, "I could see my living room was filled with black smoke," Hudson, 26, said.
Hudson put a jacket over her grandmother's head and ushered her and a two-year-old niece outside.
"I heard a lot of people screaming," a 15-year-old neighbor said. "We just saw fire everywhere."
The blaze, which broke out just before 12:30 p.m., was under control about 40 minutes later, FDNY officials said.
The four injured people were treated on the scene, officials said.
The FDNY confirmed there was a "minor accident" near the site of the fire, but was unable to confirm that it involved a fire truck.
A 26-year-old resident said he saw a fire truck making a turn onto East 217th Street from Bronxwood Avenue when it hit a minivan in a corner parking spot that a driver had just gotten into.
"[The truck] cut the corner and smacked it," the witness said. "The driver was trying to leave."
Witnesses said the fire truck continued rushing to the scene after hitting the minivan, though firefighters were later spotted taking photos of the smashed car.
