BRONX — Fresh Direct is headed to the Bronx.

The online grocer will move about 2,000 workers from its current headquarters in Long Island City, Queens to a new 500,000-square-foot facility that it will build in the Port Morris section of the Bronx, officials announced Tuesday.

The move comes after the city and state promised Fresh Direct a tax break and subsidy package worth more than $100 million — beating out a similar offer from New Jersey.

“Fresh Direct is a home-grown success that will now continue to grow and create jobs in New York,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

The company will spend $112.6 million to build its new headquarters and operations center at the Harlem River Yards, a transportation hub on the East River in Port Morris. The new facility is expected to open in 2015.

The company plans to add nearly 1,000 additional full-time workers by 2021 at the Bronx site, and to create more than 680 construction jobs.
