Man's Body Found After Fire in Upper East Side Subway Station

By Wil Cruz | February 6, 2012 6:59am

UPPER EAST SIDE — A homeless man died in a fire at a train station on the Upper East Side late Sunday, authorities said.

The unidentified man was found in an abandoned communications room at the Lexington Ave. and East 63rd Street station about 9 p.m., fire officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The fire was extinguished about an hour after it started, fire officials said. There were no other injuries.

Marshals were investigating the blaze, but police and fire officials said it didn't appear to be suspicious.

It was unclear how the fire affected train service, if at all.
