Police Hunting Suspect in Attempted East Village Rape

MANHATTAN — Police are hunting a man suspected of trying to rape a woman he allegedly followed into an East Village apartment.

The suspect followed his 27-year-old victim into her First Avenue home at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13. Police said he pushed her to the ground and attempted to rape her.

The woman was able to fight the man off and he fled, police added.

Video surveillance caught the alleged attacker on tape, showing him standing outside the building and peering in before entering the residence.

He is described as between 25 and 30 years old, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 170 pounds, police said.

In September, a man was arrested after nearly killing a woman while raping her in broad daylight on East Eighth Street, police said.
