Occupy Wall Street Launches Complaints Hotline

By Julie Shapiro | October 19, 2011 5:04pm

LOWER MANHATTAN — Occupy Wall Street has set up its own version of 311 to field Downtown residents' complaints about the protest.

Residents can now call a 24-hour hotline, 917-524-7311, to talk to an Occupy Wall Street community affairs representative, City Councilwoman Margaret Chin announced Wednesday.

Chin and others urged Occupy Wall Street to set up a complaint hotline after many nearby residents raised concerns about noise and sanitation issues emanating from the protesters campground in Zuccotti Park.

Residents with complaints can also email OWSCommunityAffairs@gmail.com, while local small business owners can call 917-524-6845, Chin's office said.

People should also continue calling the city's 311 hotline with their concerns so the city is aware of the problems as well, Chin's office said.

On Thursday night, Community Board 1 will host a meeting between Downtown residents and Occupy Wall Street protesters to discuss unresolved quality-of-life and security issues. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 250 Broadway, 19th floor. Photo identification is required.
