MIDTOWN — A man tried to rape a 12-year-old girl after luring her into an empty Midtown office, police said.
The man had met the girl earlier in the day Tuesday. He tempted her back to the building at 5 p.m. by promising to help her find a job, according to the NYPD.
Police said he led her into the office at 28 West 44th Street before threatening her with a pair of scissors and trying to attack her.
The girl managed to escape and called police.
It is unknown how the man got inside the building, which had a security desk and guard in its lobby when a DNAinfo reporter went there on Friday.
It is also unknown what kind of a job the man promised her, or whether the girl was actively seeking out work. It was not clear how they first met.
The suspect is described as between 50 and 60-years-old, five-foot-nine and bald. He was wearing black shorts and a dark long-sleeved shirt, and he was carrying a backpack.
