The 12th Annual Latin Grammy Street Party kicked-off Sunday with some of the top pop stars of the Dominican Republic bringing "rock 'n' roll with a Cuban soul"  to Inwood Hill Park.

Thousands of Latinos packed into the park to listen to such artists such as Delexilio, Los Hermanos Rosario (The Rosario Brothers) and Eddy Herrera, to name just a few.

It didn't take long for the sounds of the Grass Root Festival to get the crowd  merenguing for the afternoon, turning the park's lawn into a massive dance floor.

One of this year's most popular bands was the legendary Los Hermanos from the Dominican Republic which was on stage for nearly an hour performing their most popular hits.

Arelis Avila, 36, from Washington Heights, told DNAinfo, "I love this group.

"The lead singer is from the same town - Higuey - in the Dominican Republic that I'm from"

Arelis brought her seven-year-old daughter Karla to the annual party.

"Look at her, she can't stop dancing," she said.
