Short or Sheer, Skirts Make Fashion Week Sexier

By Della Hasselle | September 13, 2011 3:00pm

LINCOLN CENTER — Women say that few things make them feel sexier that a well-fitting skirt, and several ladies were definitely striding with confidence towards the tents of Fashion Week at Lincoln Center Tuesday.

From super-short skirts to form-fitting pencil skirts, women were showing off their assets in figure-hugging apparel from J.Crew, H&M and other mainstream designers. Sheer, flowing skirts were also popular, in both Betsey Johnson-style jet-black and bright, feminine yellows and pinks.

"It definitely makes me feel sexy, cause I'm quite a small girl and it makes me feel a little bit more curvy," said Georgie Davis, a London-based intern for Vera Wang.

Davis wore a form-fitting, bright-colored knit skirt that fell just below her knees and that she said made her "bum nice and round," at Fashion Week Tuesday.

"I feel great in it," she added.

Other women said that more flowing silhouettes made them feel feminine and pretty.

"I feel easy and comfortable," yoga teacher Alexandra Moga said, wearing a floral print skirt that was short at the front and long and flowing at the back.

"And it shows leg, and highlights that body part that is just beautiful, and when you have a nice stride, and you can see it, it just gives you confidence."

Others agreed.

"I mean, you don't have to wear short, skimpy skirts to feel sexy," student Kristin Rahl, 20, added, wearing a see-through black skirt from American Apparel with lace shapewear undergarments underneath.

"Especially if you have long legs and you like wearing heels," she added, "it's a great way to show off."
