MANHATTAN — A reputed Bloods gang member picked up during a drug raid in The Bronx has been charged with the murder and robbery of an Alphabet City teen, authorities said.
Stanley Bowens, 21, of The Bronx, lunged at a photographer as he was being led from the 120th Precinct stationhouse Thursday morning.
"He's a stone-cold killer," said a police source. "He needs to be off the streets forever."
Bowens faces murder and weapons possession charges for the Aug. 4 shooting death of aspiring artist Shytik Bowman, 17, who was gunned down in Staten Island just days short of his 18th birthday near his aunt's home, the Staten Island DA's office said.
Authorities said that Bowens, of The Bronx, attacked the victim as he was leaving a deli on Holland Avenue around 10:30 p.m.
Bowman, a junior at Legacy High School in the Flatiron, had been visiting his aunt in Staten Island and had gone downstairs to get a drink, his family said.
Sources said that Bowens, who goes by the nickname "Bizzy," snatched Bowman's bracelet, which was fake, and then shot him three times.
The suspect fled to The Bronx, but he was picked up in a drug raid on Aug. 15, according to sources and court documents.
Armed with a search warrant, investigators found a .32 caliber revolver in Bowens' bedroom, officials said. They also discovered PCP in a refrigerator and crack on the bathroom floor, according to court papers.
The gun was analyzed and found to match the weapon used in the murder, authorities said.
Bowens had been held on $10,000 bail for weapons possession and drug charges and was rearrested for the murder on Thursday morning.
"They robbed him and shot him and left him there to die," the victim's father, Kendrick Moore, told DNAinfo at the time of his son's death.
"They killed my son," he said. "It's senseless."
