UPPER EAST SIDE — A young woman was sexually assaulted by a man who climbed through a window of an Upper East Side building early Saturday morning, sources said.

The suspect entered the window of an apartment on East 90th Street around 5:17 a.m. and attacked the 27-year-old victim, according to the sources.

It's not clear if the window was open already, or the suspect forced his way in.

After the assault, the suspect, described only as a 5-foot-7 Hispanic man, then fled through the front door. The victim was taken to New York Hospital for evaluation.

The super of a nearby building, who did not want to be named, said that he heard cops saying that the victim was found in a hallway with no underwear on.

He said the victim's window was open in the morning and appeared to be out of its track.

"This is very unusual, because this block is usually very calm," he said.

The assault, which comes on the heels of string of a dozen gropings in and around the neighborhood, had residents on edge.

"This really concerns me because I'm a single woman living alone and there are no cameras on my building," said Joy Pilborough.

Allison Bondell, 29, said that she was going to have bars put on the windows of her third floor apartment.

"I’m definitely going to get bars now, even though I’m on the third floor," she said. "I feel like it is frightening, but when you live in the city, stuff like this can happen."

And Elvin Reyes, who lives nearby, said: “I wish they’d catch him. He should be locked up with the dogs.”

A Queens man, Jose Alfredo Perez Hernandez, was charged with three of the alleged groping incidents.

However, four of the victims in the spree did not pick Hernandez out of a lineup.

Saturday's attack had not been linked to the pattern of gropings, sources said.
