FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Outdoor piano season isn't over yet.

Inspired by the popularity of the free pianos that popped up all over the city earlier this summer, the Downtown Alliance installed a piano of its own on Broad Street Tuesday.

The instrument — which is actually a refurbished upright fitted with an electric keyboard — will remain in place through mid-October, giving Downtown residents and visitors a chance to tickle the ivories alfresco, just down the street from the New York Stock Exchange.

"We are excited to keep the music playing in lower Manhattan with our very own public piano," Downtown Alliance President Liz Berger said in a statement.

Unlike the 88 public pianos the nonprofit Sing for Hope scattered across the city in June — which were decorated by famous designers including Isaac Mizrahi and Diane von Furstenberg — the Alliance's piano is a traditional solid black.

A spokeswoman said the Alliance is open to working with local kids to bedazzle the instrument as a way of welcoming it to its new temporary home.

The Downtown Alliance also hosted a free piano on Broad Street last summer, but it was only in place for a few weeks. Since the piano will remain outdoors for much longer this year, the Alliance opted to use an electric keyboard so the instrument remains in tune even after substantial exposure to the elements, an Alliance spokeswoman said.

The Downtown Alliance's piano is available for the public to play in front of 25 Broad St., near Exchange Place, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Oct. 15.
