HELL'S KITCHEN — The no-man's land of Manhattan's far west side promises to get some star wattage and "dishing and swishing" from basketball legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier.
The New York Knicks Hall of Famer plans to open a 10,000-square-foot restaurant and sports bar on the ground floor of a residential tower at 505 West 37th St., according to the Real Deal.
To create the high-end spot serving "classic American fare" — with a reported Dec. 1 target opening date — Frazier is teaming up with Ark Restaurants, the team behind such establishments as the Bryant Park Grill, the Grill Room in the Financial District and El Rio Grande in Midtown East.
It's expected to be called "Clyde's," the Real Deal reported.
Nicknamed "Clyde" for his fashion similar to the character in the 1967 film, "Bonnie and Clyde," Frazier will bring his sports memorabilia to hang on the restaurant's walls, and will have "TVs glowing with sporting events," according to the Real Deal.
That type of sports bar atmosphere has made the speculation all the more interesting that David Waltuck, the chef-owner of the now-closed, very-refined Chanterelle, may be involved.
Chanterelle — which changed the TriBeCa fine dining scene when it opened there in 1989 — had softly lit chandeliers, huge Queen Anne chairs and never played music.
Grub Street said that Ark did not return calls for comment, but noted that the company did repost earlier reports that Waltuck is creating a menu for the venue, labeling it "official" on its Facebook site.
Pritzker Prize-winning avant garde architect Thom Mayne — whose futuristic metal clad Cooper Union building has turned many heads — is set to design the space, Curbed reported.
Frazier is currently a commenter for the Knicks on the MSG Network, peppering his teleplays with such phrases as "duping and hooping” and “posting and toasting."
