MANHATTAN — Uptown drivers are facing steeper parking prices starting Monday.
The cost to park in most muni-meter spots north of 96th Street has risen to $1 per hour from 75 cents for short-term parking, according to the Department of Transportation. Drivers now get just 15 minutes of parking time per 25 cents spent, down from 20 minutes.
In addition, long-term parking will increase to $8 per day. The price will remain unchanged at some locations north of 96th Street where parking costs $1.50 per hour. The current muni-meter rate below 96th Street is $3 per hour.
The muni-meter rate hikes also took effect on Staten Island and Queens on Monday. The increases will spread to the rest of the city in the coming weeks.
The DOT has been installing new muni-meters across Manhattan since April.
In Inwood Monday, some locals fumed over the rate hike.
"It's not fair to the public," said Dennis Xenos, owner of Sherman Parking.
