WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Get out your swim trunks and bathing suits.
Summer will be in full swing with the opening of 54 city pools on Wednesday, just as the mercury is set to rise into the high 80s and 90s.
Northern Manhattan parents said they were ready for the start of the season, planning group outings to Highbridge Pool and Recreation Center's twin 220-foot-long pools, located at Amsterdam Avenue and 173rd Street.
"It's so good for us to have a pool so close to home," said Gladys Suarez, 28, who lives in Washington Heights and is mother of four-year-old twins Brian and Ben. "If they get cooped up it means it's a bad day for them and me."
City pools will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and reopen from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will remain open until Labor Day weekend.
Families excited about the end of the school year Tuesday and a season of swimming and sunbathing fun starting Wednesday had best get acquainted with the myriad of pool rules, which state swimmers cannot bring beach chairs, baby strollers, bags, blankets, or beach balls on the pool deck.
Small storage units are available, but patrons must bring their own padlock.
A full list of rules and public pools in Manhattan is available through the Parks Department and 311 or check out DNAinfo.com's summer season rundown of some of the best public and private pools on the island.
