MANHATTAN - Former city comptroller and failed mayoral candidate Bill Thompson has officially tossed his hat in the ring once again to run for city's highest office.
Thompson, a Democrat, nearly defeated Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the 2009 election in nail-biting finish.
"Yes, folks...I did file my paperwork with the CFB. I am running to be the next mayor of NYC," the pol tweeted.
Thompson said that he intended to run for mayor after he lost to Bloomberg two years ago, but was the only presumed candidate who didn't file his paperwork to being fundraising, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The only other politician who's announced that he's running for mayor is Rep. Anthony Weiner, who has been embroiled in a sexting scandal for the past couple of weeks.
Bloomberg squeaked past Thompson with a mere 51 percent of the vote compared to Thompson's 46.
