INWOOD — Uptown residents need not trek to Central Park to get a fix of Shakespeare in the Park, as the Moose Hall Theater Company begins its 12th annual Inwood Shakespeare Festival with free music and theater in Inwood Hill Park.

The renowned festival started its season Wednesday night on the peninsula of the park, where theater-goers enjoyed an unseasonably warm late spring performance of Wiliam Shakespeare’s "Othello."

This summer’s season titled "Tolerance and Intolerance" included the Bard’s well-known race-based drama through June 25 as well a rendition of H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" later this summer.

Families will also be treated to multiple children’s theater events and concerts through August with the first children’s event, a stage performance of the classic fairy tale "The Frog Prince" along with other selected shorts at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 12.

A full schedule of performances is available on the theater group’s website. In the event of rain, or other inclement conditions, performances may be delayed or canceled. Cancelation information is not available until after 7:30 pm on the scheduled night of the performance.

Othello will be performed Wednedays through Saturday, June 8 through June 25, at Inwood Hill Park Peninsula. Enter at 218th Street park entrance and follow driveway. Call 212.567.5255 for further information or visit www.moosehallisf.org.
