MANHATTAN — The team behind the Upper West Side's trendy kosher Japanese steak house Prime KO is rolling out a kosher bakery and butcher shop crosstown on the Upper East Side, the New York Post reported.
Unlike the hotspot on West 85th Street and Broadway — which attracts the likes of such celebs as Lindsay Lohan and has drawn ire from the community for being too rowdy — the East Side spot would not include a restaurant.
Prime Hospitality Group might consider putting in a counter and some tables in the 2,500-square foot space on Second Avenue between 81st and 82nd streets, but the yet-to-be named bakery and butcher won't likely be a place where Snooki and Chauncey Billups hang out into the late hours.
"Right now there is no full-time kosher bakery in Manhattan. It's a niche market," Steven Traube, the company's director of operations, told the Post.
Besides its famous meat, the shop is planning to develop its own prepared and frozen foods, such as barbecue sauce, soup stocks and vegetarian and duck spring rolls, he said.
