MANHATTAN — The legendary Hotel Chelsea will be sold to real-estate developer Joseph Chetrit in an $80 million deal, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The buyer's identity had been kept a secret since the deal was struck in April. Chetrit, who recently upgraded the Upper West Side's Empire Hotel,  is known to shun publicity.

He plans to keep the 12-floor building on West 23rd Street as a hotel, which will be good news to its concerned fans who feared it might be turned into condos, the Journal reported.

The 127-year-old hotel is famous as being a home for New York's bohemian set, and has had Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and playwright Arthur Miller among past tenants.

It was put on the market last year after long-running disagreements between the three Hungarian familes that currently own it.
