MANHATTAN — A 50-year-old man died from multiple stab wounds on the Lower East Side Wednesday morning, police said.

The unidentified man was found bleeding from his wounds in front of 190 Stanton Street, a treatment facility for mentally ill homeless people, shortly after 3:00 a.m.

He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning.

Neighbors said police helicopters with strobe lights were flying low over the street minutes after the killing.

A detective was seen pulling a long knife out of a garbage can close to the building at about 8:30 a.m.

Residents at the facility said the man had been fighting with another man before the murder.

Robert Cannady, 57, said both men had only recently moved into the treatment center.

NYPD officers said the investigation is ongoing.
