UPPER WEST SIDE — A fight involving 10 people recently broke out at an Upper West Side bar that police have been trying to shut down on the grounds that it's a neighborhood nuisance, according to a police report.

A 42-year-old man from Queens sustained minor injuries after he and his girlfriend got into an argument with another couple that spiraled out of control at the 420 Bar and Lounge, according to a police report.

The man told police approximately 10 men assaulted him with chairs and glass bottles during the April 9 fight at the night spot, which police say they're trying to shut down because it's a magnet for trouble.

But bar owner Eric Holzer said the fight was a "minor incident," and that he's doing his best to cooperate with neighbors and police. Residents have complained that the bar, on Amsterdam Avenue and West 80th Street, is too noisy and attracts rowdy customers.

Holzer said he's tried to keep a lower profile in the neighborhood by eliminating the parties his establishment once hosted on Sunday and Tuesday nights.

"I want to be a good neighbor," Holzer said. "I want to do what the police what me to do."

No one called 911 during the incident, so officers did not respond to the fight, Holzer said. The victim reported it to police afterward.

The New York State Liquor Authority fined 420 Bar and Lounge $5,000 in 2008 after a fight broke out on the premises.

Holzer told DNAinfo last month that he felt police were unfairly targeting 420 Bar and Lounge because it's one of the few Upper West Side night spots that plays hip-hop music.
