MANHATTAN - Living in the Big Apple takes a lot of green.
Costs for common purchases have skyrocketed about 14 percent over last year and rent has jumped five percent, according to a published report.
Motorists had to pay an average of $4.21 a gallon for gas on Friday, up from $3.08 last year, an analysis by The Post found.
The price for a dozen eggs jumped from $2.67 to $3.69 and a pound of ground beef was up more than a dollar to $4.99.
Rent at the average Manhattan doorman building stood at $3,529 last month, up from $3,360 last year, the paper said.
And straphangers are feeling the pain too, with monthly MetroCards costing $104 instead of $89 last year.
