MANHATTAN — The head of a nonprofit group that runs a popular dual-language school on the Lower East Side has reportedly resigned less than a year after taking the job.
Winston Chow, executive director of the Shuang Wen Academy Network, is leaving the high-achieving school amid multiple investigations by the Department of Education, NY1 reported.
Chow reportedly took the job last fall and said he was unaware of the school's troubles when he accepted the position. Chow told NY1 he left the post to pursue another opportunity, but did not say what.
Multiple calls to Shuang Wen went unanswered Friday, as the school is not in session this week for spring break.
Parents have claimed that Shuang Wen has been unfairly targeted by the DOE, which is probing the school for its finances and enrollment practices.
Last month, one parent with a history of making intimidating remarks was arrested for threatening to burn down the Cherry Street school if he daughter was no transferred.
