HELL'S KITCHEN — The details of a much-talked about new development on the West Side have finally been unveiled.

"Gotham West," which will take up almost an entire city block between West 44th and 45th streets and Tenth and Eleventh avenues, will consist of four towers housing some 1,240 rental units, including one 31-story building that will house 700 apartments, announced the developer, The Gotham Organization Inc.

The development will include 17,000 square feet of retail space as well as a 200-space parking garage, according to the developer's website.

Adjacent to the 31-story building will be a mid-rise that will contain 297 affordable housing units, and toward Tenth Avenue, two 14-story buildings will offer 243 units of affordable housing.

The space's interiors will be designed by SPaN (Stonely Pelsinki architects Neukomm LLC) and landscaping will be completed by Thomas Balsley Associates.

The development will be near PS 51 at 520 West 45th Street, and parents have already raised concerns about how noise from the construction might affect academic performance, as well as impact the air quality at the school.

A group of parents calling themselves Fight for 51 say the only acceptable solution is to relocate the school for the duration of the three-year construction process.

Construction will begin this summer, and the units should be ready in 2013, according to the developer.
