MIDTOWN — Winter-weary New Yorkers hoping to soak up the sun on the Bryant Park lawn will have to wait up to two months.

Because of extensive work at the park, including the installation of new drainage systems and electrical work, the usual opening date, which generally falls between mid-April and early May depending on the temperature, has been pushed back, an official with the Bryant Park Corporation confirmed.

The work could take up to two months to complete, according to crews at the park.

Today, the lawn space is an empty swath of brown gravel filled with construction machines and workers shoveling.

"It's disappointing," said Brooklyn's Anita Gomez, 37, who works across the park. After this year's brutal winter, she's been looking forward to enjoying her lunch with colleagues on the lawn.

"That's a sign that spring is never coming," she sighed.

The park typically undergoes extensive work each spring as the annual ice skating rink is removed to make way for green lawns.

Crews were busy at work Monday morning at Bryant Park.
