Lincoln Tunnel Reopens After Tractor Trailer Accident

MANHATTAN — All lanes of the New Jersey-bound Lincoln Tunnel were reopened late Friday morning after being closed to cars and trucks at the start of rush hour, a Port Authority spokesman said.

The shutdown began at 5:25 a.m. and continued through 11:30 a.m., after a tractor trailer full of garbage overturned on the New Jersey side, according to the Authority.

Motorists were warned to expected residual delays.

The garbage hauler had been removed by 9 a.m., but workers were still working to clean up garbage that had been spilled on the ground.

New Jersey-bound commuters were being redirected at the West 41st Street enterance to turn north on Tenth Avenue.

They had been urged to use the Holland Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge.

NJ Transit buses were back to regular service after experiencing 20 minute delays throughout the morning, according to the NJ Transit website.

The driver of the overturned trailer was taken to Hoboken Hospital with unknown injuries after the accident, a Port Authority spokesman said.
