MIDTOWN — Firefighters were called in to put out large trash can fire at the Seventh Avenue subway platform on 53rd Street early Friday morning, fire officials said.

The fire started at 4:16 a.m. on the southbound level of the B, D and E subway platform, fire officials said.

It took firefighters 32 minutes to put out the fire, according to the FDNY.

The subway station was temporarily evacuated, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said. The smell of smoke was still present on the southbound and northbound platforms several hours later.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
