WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Real estate sales saw a big uptick this week as the remaining 26 units at the New Amsterdam development were sold in one day.

The condo units at 2360 Amsterdam Avenue sold for $211,000 to $503,000 at an auction held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown on Sunday, according to Sheldon Good and Co., the firm that handled the auction.

The final sale prices of the apartments that ranged in size from a one-bedroom, 632-square feet apartment to a four-bedroom 1,525-square-foot penthouse were 30 percent off the original asking price, reported Crains New York. Eleven parking spots assigned to the apartments also sold during the auction.

When the luxury apartment development was first placed on the market in the spring of 2008, a one-bedroom unit asking price was $329,000 and two-bedrooms started at $529,000.

"It would have taken us months, possibly more, to sell 26 residences in these market conditions," Jose Espinal, developer of New Amsterdam, said in a public statement. "By accelerating this process through an auction, we were able to sell all remaining condominiums in one afternoon and pass those savings onto the buyer, making this a win-win for everyone."
