MIDTOWN — A diesel fuel spill from a delivery truck briefly shut down the Broadway and West 57th Street intersection Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

Hazmat crews and firefighters responded to the small spill, which happened after the truck hit a manhole just before 3 p.m., fire officials said.

The jolt caused the frozen food delivery truck's gas tank to rupture, spilling roughly 10 gallons of fuel into the street, the FDNY said.

"It was like thunder, like a boom," said truck driver, Lemec Cruz, who was on his way to Grand Central for the last delivery of the day. He felt the truck's back wheels sink into the manhole.

The intersection was closed to traffic for about 30 minutes as crews cleaned up the spill.

"It kind of sucks because it's cold, and I've been out here since 3 a.m.," said truck passenger David John, who is also from Orange County.

The truck drivers said the spill would likely cause them to arrive home at 10 p.m., five to six hours behind schedule.

That's time John hoped to spend buying last minute Christmas presents for his kids.

"This kind of puts a dent in my plans," John said.
