CHELSEA — A new Chelsea exhibit featuring sculptures built solely of LEGO bricks opened Tuesday.

"RED: The LEGO Brick Sculpture of Nathan Sawaya" is comprised of 13 life-size sculptures created from tens of thousands of the iconic toy blocks. Sawaya is a New York sculptor who exclusively works with LEGOs.

The sculptures cover the range of human emotion:

"Loves Me Not" depicts a forlorn woman holding a wilted red rose with dead black roses at her feet, "Kissing" features a young couple in a loving embrace, and "Trapped" portrays a panicked man desperately trying to escape from a box.

"It's amazing how he's taken his childhood hobby to the full breadth of artistic expressionism," said Angela Di Bello, the director of the Agora Gallery, where the show is taking place.

"His work shows how you can make something magnificent out of an everyday simple toy or object," she said.

"He's a LEGO master," she added.

"Red: The LEGO Brick Sculpture of Nathan Sawaya" will run at Agora Gallery on 530 West 25th St. through Dec. 14.
