MANHATTAN — Hong Kong feng shui master Tony Chan was bilked for nearly $800,000 by a car service driver after taking a ride from the city to Teterboro Airport in July 2008, the New York Post reported Monday.
Chan reportedly paid for the trip the New Jersey airport with his American Express card. The driver, Peter Rahhaoui from Queens, then allegedly used the card numbers to rack up purchases over the next several months, totaling $794,986, the paper said.
Monthly charges on the card reportedly ranged from $4,300 to $20,000, according to papers filed in Brooklyn Federal Court. The Secret Service investigated the charges after Chan’s bank alerted him alerted him to the suspicious transactions.
They arrested Rahhaoui in January 2009.
But Chan is also facing his own legal troubles.
He was arrested in his Hong Kong luxury home after allegedly forging the will of a wealthy woman he advised, according to the paper.
The will named Chan the sole heir to Nina Wang’s fortune, estimated at $4.2 billion.
Rahhaoui reportedly pleaded not guilty. He declined to comment to the Post.
