MANHATTAN — Devo, the 1980s art-rock band famous for the hit "Whip It" and for appearing on stage wearing bright yellow jumpsuits and red hats shaped like layer cakes, cancelled their Halloween concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom, the Brooklyn Vegan first reported on Wednesday.
The band nixed the Saturday night appearance "due to a serious hand injury sustained by guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh," according to a press release. "A glass shard sliced Mothersbaugh's right thumb to the bone, severing a tendon."
The guitarist underwent emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Ticket holders are entitled to a refund at the point of purchase.
For those wishing to express support this weekend for the injured Devo member, a Halloween costume consisting of jumpsuit, layer-cake hat and "3-DEVO Retro Specs" can be purchased here.
