EAST VILLAGE — A 4-year-old boy was walking with his nanny in the East Village Wednesday morning when a man picked up the child and attempted to walk away with him, police said.
The suspect tried to abduct the boy on East 6th Street between Avenue A and B about 11:10 a.m., according to NYPD.
The victim's nanny started screaming and was able to wrench the child away from the suspect, police said. Police said the victim was not injured and the suspect fled.
NYPD described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 45 and 55, and between 5 foot 6 and 5 foot 8 inches tall. He was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and faded black jeans, police said.
Marlon Hosang, principal of PS 64 at the corner of East 6th St. and Avenue B, said police visited him to tell him about the incident.
Hosang said the nanny was getting out of a cab with the 4 year old in front of a deli on the northwest corner of the intersection when the incident occurred.
