INWOOD — In a possible sign of how badly the economy is hitting New Yorkers, an Inwood car owner awoke Friday morning to find his street-parked car stripped of all its tires and left sitting on bricks.

The owner, who declined to give his name, said he parked his Honda Accord across the street Bruce’s Garden on Park Terrace East around 7 p.m. Thursday night, and returned to find it stripped down before noon Friday.

Police confirmed that they received a call Friday morning and responded to the scene at approximately 11 a.m.

The bare car was a spectacle on the quiet street, which ends in a cul-de-sac beside Isham Park. Neighbors gawked at the car and took photos of the unlikely site.

“Holy crap, there is a car up on bricks, tires stolen, on Park Terrace East!” Tweeted Inwood resident Lisa DellAquila after seeing the car after 10 a.m.

“It’s like 1982,” one woman said as she passed the car pushing a baby stroller.

“In the 18 years I’ve lived here I’ve never seen anything like that,” said Inwood resident Kelly O’Brien, 53. “Let’s just hope this is a one time deal.”
