HARLEM — Emergency workers pulled a man alive from under the third car of a subway train Thursday afternoon, FDNY said, after he reportedly jumped onto the tracks in Harlem.
The man was taken from the subway station at West 110th Street and Lenox Avenue to Harlem Hospital about 4 p.m., a spokesperson for the FDNY said.
Tyrone Ellison, 49, of Harlem, said he watched EMTs carry the man from the station.
"They brought up a white guy in his 30s. The side of his head was bleeding but it looked like he was still alive," Ellison said. "As long as he was alive, that's good."
Another witness said there was "black train crud all over his body."
A spokesperson for the NYPD said no criminality was suspected. Witnesses at the scene said they saw the man jump.
Debra Brown, 51, of Harlem, who was glad to see that the man was alive, said, "You never know what people are going through. Life problems — the loss of a job is serious. But you have to go on."
