MANHATTAN — NYPD took to Twitter Monday in their hunt for a man accused of a sexual assault in Chelsea following a fruitless three months of investigation, volunteer efforts by community leaders and circulation of clear surveillance photos.
NYPD News tweeted a Twitpic of the suspect and said, "If you have any information contact Crime Stoppers. http://tiny.cc/6gcuq."
The suspect is accused of attacking a 24-year-old woman about 11:15 p.m. on Friday, April 30, after she let someone she believed to be a delivery man into her building near the intersection of West 14th Street and 7th Avenue.
The man, who police describe as between 5'5" and 5'7", about 175 pounds, Hispanic and in his 30s, then forced his way into her apartment and sexually assaulted her.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn's office has also taken to social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, to help the police find the suspect. In addition they send out ongoing email blasts to business leaders in the community with the suspect's photo.
Quinn's office said she will pass out fliers with the subject's picture on it later this month, adding that she will continue to do so until the suspect is caught, according to a spokesperson.
