MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS — A man fell between the cars on a moving downtown 1 train and was rescued by fellow passengers who pulled him out of the gap Monday morning.
It happened between the 110th Street and 103rd Street stations at about 8:40 a.m.
Witnesses said the man was standing between the cars and appeared to faint as the train began moving.
As he fell, one of his legs slid down between the two cars leaving him apparently unconscious and dangling above the tracks.
Two other men riding the train reacted quickly, and managed to wrestle him up and out of the gap as another passenger hit the emergency brake, slamming the train to a halt.
"He's lucky people were paying attention" said Mercy Fermin, who saw the incident. "If no one was looking he would have gone right through."
Police and paramedics boarded the train to attend to the man and removed him from the car at the 103rd Street Station.
The man was not seriously hurt and was not taken to the hospital, the FDNY said.
The train's service resumed shortly after 9 a.m.
