Times Square Shake Shack Opens to the Delight of Tourists and Midtown Workers

TIMES SQUARE — Is that line for burgers or Broadway?

Shake Shack opened up a new Times Square location on Eight Avenue and 44 Street Monday morning — much to the delight of tourists and local workers.

“The shakes were good, but the fries were awesome,” said Tom McCook, 38, who was visiting New York with his family from Tucson, Arizona. McCook said he and his family tried to go Sunday night but the restaurant wasn’t open.

Daniel Lobovsky, 26, decided to stop in to Shake Shack for the first time after passing it on the way to work.

“For a burger and fries it's a little pricey, but it’s good food,” said Lobovsky, who works on 51st Street and Seventh Avenue.

The space is open and airy, with floor to ceiling to windows facing eight avenue. The dark wood counters are made out of reclaimed bowling alley lanes.

Upper West Side resident Kathleen Adams, 22, said the line at the new location was much shorter than the ones she typically encounters at the one near her home. She also said planned to go to the new Upper East Side Shake Shack when it opens because that's where her boyfriend is.

But that's as far as she is willing to go.

“I’m not going to Citi Field because I’m a Yankees Fan,” said Adams.
