MANHATTAN – The USS Intrepid has planned a blue and white tribute to commemorate what would have been the 100th birthday of Mother Theresa on Aug. 26.

The navy museum made the announcement in the wake of a continuing row over the Empire State Building’s refusal to mark the world-renowned nun’s would-be birthday.

"We'd be thrilled to represent what Mother Teresa has done in terms of public service,” Susan Marenoff, executive director of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum told the New York Post.

“We are the essence of public service. We give back every day."

Anthony Malkin, owner of the Empire State Building, said the company would light up the landmark in honor of religious days, but not religious people like Mother Teresa.

The Catholic League has been asking the Empire State Building to be illuminated in blue and white to honor Mother Teresa since February. The famous nun died in 1997 at the age of 87.
