MANHATTAN — A woman was found dead inside a Harlem housing project Thursday night after she was shot twice in the torso Thursday night, police said in a statement.
Officers discovered the victim, Massielle Abreu, unconscious at 260 West 131st St., part of the Saint Nicholas project, shortly before 8 p.m, according to police.
The 29-year-old was then taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
Abreu had apparently called police earlier in the evening to report that her common law husband, Renaldo Lebron, 34, had violated a restraining order she had filed against him, according to sources.
When police arrived, they found the victim in the hallway with two gunshot wounds.
The couple's children were present when the shooting took place, sources said.
A resident at the housing complex who did not wish to be identified said she heard the gunshots and the kids screaming. She said when she looked out her window, she saw police performing CPR on the woman.
"Her arm was dangling and there was blood, you could tell she was dead," the resident said.
Lebron was arrested later in the evening in connection with the murder, police said.
