MANHATTAN — Just two years after his resignation for his involvement in a high-priced prostitution ring, former Gov. Eliot Spitzer has inched his way back into the spotlight, prompting questions about the possibility of his running for public office again.

Spitzer touched on those questions in an interview with Fortune magazine. He said it was "hard to see" him running again, but you never know.

"I've never said I would never consider running for office again," Spitzer told the magazine.

"I love politics," he said. "The substance, the debate about the issues."

Spitzer's return to the public eye has been gradual. In November 2008, he published an opinion piece in the Washington Post about financial regulation. Next came Spitzer's regular column for Slate.

By the first anniversary of his resignation, Spitzer was appearing on CNN, on the "Today" show, and on the cover of Newsweek.

Within the last year, Spitzer has started teaching at City College and has appeared on the Colbert Report and kicked off the eighth season of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" in February. He even went so far as to offer advice to Tiger Woods in a video piece on Bigthink.com.

In addition to Spitzer rebuilding his public persona, the ex-governor has also become the subject of books and movies. A tell-all book about the scandal that brought Spitzer down came out last month and a documentary on the same topic premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month as well.
