In an attempt to climb its way out of possible bankruptcy or closure, St. Vincent’s Hospital announced significant pay cuts Thursday.

The hospital said non-union personnel, including management, will face temporary salary cuts of up to 25 percent.

“To restore fiscal stability so that St. Vincent’s can continue to provide quality healthcare for the West Side of Manhattan, many people are being asked to make great sacrifices; and all will share in the sacrifice,” Mark Toney, St. Vincent’s Chief Restructuring Officer, said in a statement.

Executives will be asked to take a 25 percent wage cut, while directors and managers are facing a 20 percent decrease.

The announcement comes a day after the hospital told staff it plans on laying off 32 doctors by the end of the month and asked the union to consider a wage decrease as well.

Dr. William Mandell (no relation to this reporter) told DNAinfo.com that the hospital was pressing on with its normal work — he said he even had his shoulder operated on at the hospital earlier this month.

But people are fearful for their jobs, and the future of the hospital, he said.

“It’s tense, to say the least,” he said.
