'Fog of War' Documentary Editor Killed in Alleged Hit and Run by Robbers Fleeing Police

MANHATTAN — An award-winning Upper West Side film editor was killed on the weekend when she was mowed down by a car driven by three robbers as they sped away from the scene of a crime, police said.

Karen Schmeer,  the editor of Oscar-winning documentary "Fog of War" about former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, was crossing the street at Broadway near W. 90th St. when she was hit by the robbers' Dodge Caravan, according to police.

Police were chasing the three men after they allegedly stole allergy medicine from a nearby CVS Pharmacy, Friday night.

Schmeer, 39, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

One of the suspects, 25-year-old David McKie was caught, arrested and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Schmeer had been living on the Upper West Side since the summer and was in the city while working on her most recent project, according to news reports.
