FDNY Battles Fire in Chelsea Apartment Building

CHELSEA — A fire broke out in the basement of a Chelsea townhouse building late Friday morning.

A plume of smoke poured out of the building on 21st Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues.

At least a dozen fire trucks and ambulances responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call at roughly 11:30 a.m., fire officials said. The NYPD confirmed that the blaze originated in the basement of 253 West 21st Street.

Police at the scene said no one was injured in the fire.
