MANHATTAN — The company behind some of the most popular strollers in Manhattan is conducting a massive recall of one million strollers because the hinges can cut off children's fingers.

British stroller manufacturer Maclaren is recalling nearly all of its models sold between 1999 and 2009, including the Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller models.

Maclaren strollers have long been a popular choice for Manhattan parents because they can be easily folded for subway travel. But it's that easy fold action that may be responsible for the recall.

The company has allegedly received dozens of reports of children's fingers getting amputated or cut by the side hinges as the stroller is folded or unfolded.

The company's Web site urges parents to contact them for a repair kit that includes hinge covers.
