South Bronx native Sonia Manzano, who played Maria on "Sesame Street," will read from her debut novel, "The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano," at the Bronx Music Heritage Center Lab on Saturday.

Manzano began the role in the 1970s, which she played for 10 years before joining the show's writing team, which went on to win 15 Emmy Awards.

Her novel is about a young woman coming of age in Spanish Harlem in 1969 and includes real news events from that period, such as the Young Lords.

Books will be on sale and Manzano will hold a book signing.

The event is part of the series, "Bronx Rising! Music, Film & Spoken Word of the Borough."
