Pioneering Latin bass player Andy Gonzalez will perform a free career-retrospective concert at the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture with a 20-member ensemble.

Gonzalez helped develop New York salsa and continues to be an important bassist in Latin jazz today.  He was the co-leader and member of bands such as The Fort Apache Band, Grupo Folklorico Experimental Y Nuevayorkino, and Conjunto Libre and, with his brother, Jerry Gonzalez, he has played jazz with Kenny Dorham and Dizzy Gillespie and salsa with Eddie Palmieri and Ray Barretto.

The concert, co-sponsored by Hostos, is part of the Bronx Music Heritage Center’s (BMHC) "Bronx Living Legends" series, which celebrates respected artists.
