The newly-formed New Cuban Express is one of five Grammy nominees for Best Latin Jazz Album at this year's Grammy Awards. A contemporary take on Cuban music, the band performs compositions and arrangements from all its members.

Members include pianist and bandleader Manuel Valera, saxophonist Yosvany Terry, drummer Ernesto Simpson and bassist John Benitez.

Opening for the the New Cuban Express is Austin band the Young Mothers, a band that combines jazz, improv, indie rock, hip hop and world music.

Thursday, Dec. 13 at 9 p.m. at Terraza 7, 40-19 Gleane St. in Elmhurst. The show is free, but there is a $5 cover for upstairs mezzanine seating during the New Cuban Express' set.
