BROOKLYN — A woman was slashed in the throat with a shard of glass by a homeless man who told her, "Don't scream" in a Thursday night attack in Gowanus, police said.

The 24-year-old woman was outside of 65 Ninth St., between Smith Street and Second Avenue, when Luis Perez, 37, cut her about 8 p.m., the NYPD said.

She was taken to Methodist Hospital and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

She told police she didn't know Perez and investigators don't know why he targeted her, police said.

Perez, who lives in a homeless shelter on East 30th Street in Manhattan, was later arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said.

He has prior arrests for heroin possession and turnstile jumping, police said.

Perez was awaiting arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Friday.
