LOWER EAST SIDE — A man on a bike shot a woman in the left shoulder as she stepped out of a taxi on Rivington Street early Sunday morning, police said.

Police do not believe the woman was the gunman's intended target.

The 26-year-old victim was near from the Hotel on Rivington near Ludlow Street about 5 a.m. when the the gunman rode past on a bicycle and fired four rounds, striking the woman once in the left shoulder, according to authorities.

The woman was transported to Bellevue Hospital with injuries that don't appear to be life threatening, police said.

Video footage shows the people standing near the victim run into the Hotel on Rivington as the shots are fired, according to a police source.

The gunman, who police believed rode a motorized bike, fled and hadn't been arrested as of Monday morning, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shooting.

The general manager of the Hotel on Rivington on Monday said the hotel had provided all video footage to police and were cooperating with the investigation.

Police on Monday released a wanted poster with a photo of the suspect, depicted wearing a black hoodie and riding a small blue bike. The man is wanted for assault, police said.

Police later released surveillance footage of the same man riding the bike, but stated he is simply wanted for questioning in relation to the shooting.
